For those of you that love barbecue but are sick of those wheaty hush puppies being shoved in your face, MIDWOOD SMOKEHOUSE is the place to be! They have an entirely gluten free menu (if you ask for it) featuring yumminess like “Bacon-wrapped Jalepenos”. I had a hankering for southern style food tonight and treated myself to a small plate of pulled pork with midwood barbeque sauce (sweet, tangy and delicious) with a side of cole slaw. Mouth watering yet? My only complaint is that they don’t serve GF corn-bread!

Definitely a spot to explore! I am providing a link to the GF menu for those of you who are interested.

Great Gluten Free Lunch Option

pesto cavatappi

Pesto Cavatappi with gluten free fusilli noodles.

Pasta was one of the things I missed the most when giving up gluten, even more so than bread, so I was was super excited when I found out that one of my favorite lunch spots, Noodles & Company, started offering a gluten free option for all of their pasta dishes. Every dish they make is made to order and you can customize yours however you like. They only offer one type of GF noodle (so far) — the fusilli noodle, and it’s 2 bucks extra. My favorite dish is the Pesto Cavatappi. I usually order it with extra broccoli and no mushrooms, and now with the gluten free fusilli option, shown here. They have a wonderful menu with a wide variety of choices including soups and salads – another restaurant to add to the growing list of  Charlotte eateries that offer gluten free options!

Simple beginnings

For my first post, I’d like to let those of you who are new to eating gluten free in on a little secret: hardly anything has to change! Love pizza? Fuel Pizza, Pizza Peel, and Mellow Mushroom are just a few of the pizzerias around town offer a delicious gluten free pizza. Beer? Omission Pale Ale AND lager (available at most local grocery stores and at both Common Markets) taste just like the original brews that you love. Pasta? Brown rice pasta is my number one jam, and you can get that at Trader Joes or Harris Teeter, Whole Foods, Earth Fare, and Healthy Home Market.

My point is, there are so many simple and readily available options that I’ve gone from being hungry all the time, simply out of not knowing what to eat, to realizing that a belly full of nourishing, gluten free foods are all around town that my sweet mama and I are here to help you navigate!

More of a cozy keep-your-socks on homebody type? I’ve got a plethora of delicious recipes that I’ll be posting regularly to keep your appetites satisfied. Thanks for reading, and if you have any questions, recipe requests, or just need a little healthy eating support, comment away!
